Hy het verwys na die afname in die vervaardiging wat tot 500 000 werksverliese gelei het, na aanleiding van ʼn aansienlike afname in verbruikersaanvraag. Die land se moeilikheid om die situasie te verander, word vererger deur hoë energie- en arbeidskoste, swak infrastruktuur, beleids- en regulatoriese onsekerheid, die uitvoer van onbehandelde (onveredelde) goedere en 'n steun op invoere. Wat: WKBI het projekte in mynbou- en mineraalverbetering, visvang, landbou, toerisme en infrastruktuur – gewaardeer op sowat R20 miljard. Die 120 projekte wat gereed is vir belegging, sal na verwagting sowat 20 000 werksgeleenthede skep. Hoogtepunte: Die Anglo-Amerikaanse Korporasie het aangekondig dat dit een van die inisiatief se grootste projekte sal aanneem en in Saldanha ʼn sinksmelter van R1,6 miljard sal opbou.
