INSTRUCTIONS TO MARKERS

1. Candidates are required to answer ALL the questions.

2. These marking guidelines have been finalised at a marking discussion session.
Any omissions or queries should be referred to the INTERNAL MODERATOR.
      All protocol must be followed.

3. Candidates' responses should be assessed as objectively as possible.

MARKING THE COMPREHENSION
• Because the focus is on understanding, incorrect spelling and language errors in
responses should not be penalised unless such errors change the
meaning/understanding. (Errors must still be indicated.)

• If a candidate uses words from a language other than the one being examined,
disregard those words, and if the answer still makes sense, do not penalise.
However, if a word from another language is used in a text and required in an
     answer, this will be acceptable.

• For open-ended questions, no marks should be awarded for YES/NO or
I AGREE/I DISAGREE. The reason/substantiation/motivation is what should be
     considered.

• When one-word answers are required and the candidate gives whole sentences,
mark correct provided that the correct word is underlined/highlighted.

• When two/three facts/points are required and a range is given, mark only the first
     two/three.

• Accept dialectical variations.

• For multiple-choice questions, accept BOTH the letter corresponding with the
correct answer AND/OR the answer written out in full.

                                                 2

      Yes.
If you accept a compliment and believe it, it will improve your self-esteem and show
      other people you appreciate it.
                                               OR

People will think you are arrogant and they will think less of you if they do not

1.10 Open-ended. Accept a suitable response, e.g.

      Yes.
The title is suitable because it is linked to the content of the passage which speaks
of self-love, its significance, and its various aspects, including the difference
between self-love and narcissism. It also explains the role of self-love in personal
well-being, relationships, and resilience, and even the impact of coaching on an
      individual.
                                                   OR
      No.
The title is not suitable as it is confusing. To have self-love does not ensure success.
The passage does not provide the reader with real-life suggestions on how to be
      successful.

NOTE: Accept other suitable answers. A candidate can score 1 for an answer that
is not well substantiated. Accept a combination answer. (2)

It clearly indicates the percentages of occurrences of cyberbullying and it provides

      No.
There is no evidence of research to prove that the statistics are correct and most
people do not pay any attention to statistics/percentages. People are addicted to
social media platforms and the statistics will not deter the use of these platforms.
