QUESTION 2

2.1 Ms Palesa Mokoena rents a house from the Motseng Local Municipality. Her
municipal account for August 2026 and an extract of the municipality’s water tariffs
are given in ANNEXURE A. Some information has been omitted.
Use ANNEXURE A to answer the questions that follow.
2.1.1 Write down the date by which Ms Mokoena must pay this account. (2)
2.1.2 Explain what the amount of −R1 862,40 on the account means. (2)
2.1.3 Show, using the meter readings, that Ms Mokoena used 23 kilolitres (kℓ)
of water in August 2026. (2)
2.1.4 Calculate the value of A, the cost of the water used (VAT excluded). (4)
2.1.5 Show how the VAT of R27,75 on refuse removal was calculated. (2)
2.1.6 Hence, calculate B, the VAT on water, and C, the total amount due. (3)
2.1.7 The municipality will increase all water tariffs by 7,5% from 1 July 2027.
Ms Mokoena claims that the tariff for the 16–30 kℓ block will then be more
                     than R28,00 per kℓ.
Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether her claim is valid. (3)
2.2 Ms Mokoena receives a bonus of R7 800. She invests it for 18 months in a savings
account that earns 6,8% simple interest per annum.
Calculate the interest that she will earn on her investment.
          You may use the following formula: A = P(1 + i × n)
          where A = final amount; P = amount invested; i = interest rate per year; n = number
          of years (4)
                                                                                                   [22]

Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
3.1.1 Is the number of bottles collected an example of discrete or continuous
                     data? (2)

3.1.5 Calculate the mean number of bottles collected per member. (3)
3.1.6 One club member is chosen at random to receive a prize. Determine the
probability that the member chosen collected MORE than 30 bottles.
Give your answer as a decimal number rounded off to TWO decimal places. (3)
3.2 During Term 3 the club sent 160 kg of waste for recycling. The pie chart below shows

QUESTION 4

4.1 Mr Ndou is planning a Grade 10 Geography excursion. Tumelo Tours charges a fixed
fee of R650,00 plus R8,50 per kilometre (km) travelled to hire a minibus with a driver.
TABLE 2 below shows the hiring cost for different distances.

                       Distance (km) 0 50 100 150 A 250
                       Cost (in rand) 650 1 075 1 500 B 2 350 2 775

                                                                                [Examiner’s own]
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
4.1.1 Identify the independent variable in TABLE 2. (2)
          4.1.2 Calculate the missing values A and B in TABLE 2. (4)
4.1.3 The excursion is a return trip of 136 km in total. The 22 learners who go on
the excursion share the hiring cost equally.
Mr Ndou says that each learner will have to pay less than R85,00.
Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether his statement is correct. (4)
4.2 Kasi Sports had a sale on running shoes. The price of one pair was reduced from
R1 199,00 to R899,00 (VAT included). Kasi Sports buys the shoes from the supplier
at R620,00 per pair (VAT included).
4.2.1 Calculate the percentage discount on one pair of shoes.
You may use the following formula:
                                             old price − new price
                       Percentage discount = × 100% (3)
                                                   old price
4.2.2 Calculate the profit that Kasi Sports made on ONE pair of shoes sold at the
                     sale price. (2)
4.2.3 Kasi Sports sold 46 pairs of these shoes during the sale. The manager claims
