QUESTION 2

2.1 Ms Nomvula Dlamini’s bank statement for October 2025 and an extract of her bank’s
fee structure are given in ANNEXURE A. Some information has been omitted.
Use ANNEXURE A to answer the questions that follow.
2.1.1 Write down the statement period. (2)
          2.1.2 Calculate the missing balance A on 5 October 2025. (2)
2.1.3 Calculate the fee that Ms Dlamini paid for the ATM cash withdrawal on 8
                     October 2025. (2)
2.1.4 Show, using the fee structure, that the total bank charges for October 2025
                     amount to R132,00. (4)
          2.1.5 Calculate the closing balance B on 31 October 2025. (2)
2.1.6 Ms Dlamini says that she spends more than 30% of her salary on rent.
Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether her statement is correct. (3)
2.2 Ms Dlamini wants to invest R6 000 for 3 years. She compares the following two
          options:
BANK A: 7,25% simple interest per annum
BANK B: 7% interest per annum, compounded annually
2.2.1 Calculate the value of her investment after 3 years if she chooses BANK
                     A.
                     You may use the following formula: A = P(1 + i × n)
                     where A = final amount; P = amount invested; i = interest rate; n = number
                     of years (3)
2.2.2 Calculate the value of the investment at the end of EACH year if she
chooses BANK B. Hence state which bank offers the better option after
                     3 years. (4)
                                                                                                   [22]

          4.1.1 Calculate the missing values A and B in TABLE 1. (4)
4.1.2 Write down a formula that can be used to calculate the monthly cost of
                                        OPTION 1, in the form:
                                        Cost (in rand) = … (2)
4.1.3 Use the graph to determine the number of minutes per month for which the
two options cost the same. (2)
4.1.4 Thembi uses about 100 minutes of calls per month. She claims that
OPTION 2 will save her more than R30 per month.
Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether her claim is valid. (4)
