                                                            1 tablespoon = 15 mℓ
                     • 2 teaspoons curry powder 1 teaspoon = 5 mℓ
                     • 1 tin (410 g) baked beans
                                                                                 [Examiner’s own]
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
1.1.1 Convert the quantity of cooking oil to millilitres. (2)
1.1.2 Convert the mass of the tin of baked beans to kilograms. (2)
1.1.3 Mama Dube wants to make enough chakalaka for 15 people. Determine the
number of tins of baked beans that she must buy. (3)
1.1.4 She starts preparing the chakalaka at 17:50. Determine the time at which
the chakalaka will be ready. (2)
1.2 Mama Dube bakes dumplings in an oven at 200 ◦ C. Convert this temperature to
          degrees Fahrenheit (◦ F).
          You may use the following formula: ◦ F = (1,8 × ◦ C) + 32 (3)

Enter through the main gate and drive north along Kudu Road. Turn
right into Impala Avenue. The first building on your left-hand side is your
                     destination.
                     Name the visitor’s destination. (3)
2.1.5 Identify the type of scale used on the map. (2)
2.1.6 Give ONE advantage of using this type of scale on a map that may be
                     enlarged or reduced. (2)
2.1.7 On the printed map the straight-line distance between the reception and the
                     campsite is 7,5 cm.
Use the scale to determine the actual distance, in kilometres, between the
                     reception and the campsite. (4)
2.1.8 The resort allocates the numbered chalets to visitors at random.
Determine, as a percentage, the probability that a family will be allocated
a chalet that is next to the river. (3)

          7,2 m wide.

                                       CLASSROOM FLOOR 7,2 m

                                                  9m
                                   door 0,9 m

          Information:

              • The floor will be covered with square tiles of 60 cm by 60 cm.
              • Tiles are sold in boxes of 10 tiles at R289,90 per box.
              • He must buy 10% extra tiles to allow for breakages and cutting.
              • A wooden skirting will be fixed along the bottom of all the walls, except at the
door, which is 0,9 m wide.

          NOTE: 1 m = 100 cm
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
3.1.1 Calculate the area of the classroom floor.
You may use the following formula: Area of a rectangle = length × width (2)
3.1.2 Calculate the area of ONE tile in m2 . (2)
3.1.3 Determine the number of boxes of tiles that Mr Mokoena must buy. (4)
3.1.4 Calculate the total cost of the boxes of tiles. (2)
3.1.5 Calculate the length of skirting needed.
You may use the following formula: Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 ×
                     (length + width) (3)

You may use the following formula: Volume = length × width × height
                     and 1 cm3 = 1 mℓ (3)
