 QUESTION 1

1.1 Factorise the following expressions completely.
Leave your answers in simplest form:

       1.1.1 𝑥 2 − 16𝑥 + 15 (1)

       1.1.2 𝑎(6𝑎 + 2𝑏) − 3(3𝑎 + 𝑏) (2)

1.2 Simplify the following expressions completely:
                         2
       1.2.1 273 (2)
                 𝑥 + 3 𝑥 3 − 27 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 9
       1.2.2 × ÷ (4)
                 𝑥 − 3 𝑥2 − 9 𝑥−3
                   𝑥+1 𝑥+2
                 3 − 3
       1.2.3 𝑥+2
                  3 + 3𝑥 (4)
                                                                                            [13]

 QUESTION 2

 2.1 Solve for 𝑥:

       2.1.1 2. 32𝑥 = 18 (4)
                 2𝑥−1
       2.1.2 ≥ 2𝑥 + 1 (4)
                     3

       2.1.3 2𝑥 2 − 𝑥 − 10 = 0 (4)

2.2 How much must be added to (𝑥 + 5)(𝑥 − 5) so that it will be equal to
       (𝑥 + 1)(𝑥 − 25) ? (4)

 2.3 Solve for x and y simultaneously:
                 𝑦 − 3𝑥 = −2 and 7𝑥 − 2𝑦 = 8 (4)
                                                                                            [20]
