QUESTION 3

In the diagram, A(−2 ; −1), B(1 ; 3), C(6 ; 3) and D are the vertices of quadrilateral ABCD.
The diagonals AC and BD intersect at M, the midpoint of AC. M is also the midpoint of BD.
                                         y

                                               B(1 ; 3) C(6 ; 3)

                                           O M
                                                                                 x
                     A(−2 ; −1)
                                                              D

3.1 Calculate the length of AB. (2)
3.2 Determine the coordinates of M. (2)
3.3 Hence, determine the coordinates of D. (3)
3.4 Show that AC ⊥ BD. (3)

                              + tan2 60◦ (4)
            tan 45◦ . sin 30◦
4.3 Solve for θ , correct to TWO decimal places, if 0◦ ≤ θ ≤ 90◦ :
          4.3.1 5 sec θ = 8 (2)
                         ( )
                           θ ◦
          4.3.2 tan + 25 = 1,8 (3)

QUESTION 8

A solid metal right circular cone has a base radius of 5 cm and a perpendicular height of 12 cm.

                                                 Volume of a cone = 13 π r2 h
                                                 Total surface area of a cone = π r2 + π rs
                                   5 cm Volume of a sphere = 43 π r3

8.1 Show that the slant height, s, of the cone is 13 cm. (1)
8.2 Calculate the total surface area of the cone. (2)
8.3 The cone is melted down and ALL the metal is used to make one solid sphere.
Calculate the radius of the sphere. (3)
