SCENARIO
South Africans throw away thousands of tonnes of old computers, cellphones and other
electronic devices every year. REBOOT SA is a non-profit organisation in Durban that
collects electronic waste (e-waste), repairs devices that can still be used and donates them
to schools. Devices that cannot be repaired are recycled safely.

QUESTION 1: WORD PROCESSING
Open the 1Ewaste word processing document that contains an information leaflet about
e-waste.
Insert your examination number in the header of the document.
1.1 Apply the built-in ’Title’ style to the first line of the document, ’E-waste: what
you need to know’, AND expand the character spacing of this line by 2 pt. (2)
1.2 Modify the ’Heading 1’ style as follows:
           • Font size: 16 pt
           • Font effect: Small caps
           • Spacing before the paragraph: 18 pt (3)
1.3 The word ’e-waste’ was spelt incorrectly as ’ewaste’ in some places in the
         document.
Find and replace ALL occurrences of ’ewaste’ with ’e-waste’ so that the
replaced word is displayed in italics. (3)
1.4 Convert the text below the heading ’1.1 Common types of e-waste’, starting
with ’Item’ and ending with ’…older backlights’, into a table.
           • Apply any table style to the table.
           • AutoFit the table to its contents.
           • Sort the rows of the table so that the items are listed from the heaviest to
the lightest average mass. The heading row must remain at the top of the
             table. (5)
1.5 Replace the text ’Question/Vraag 1.5’ with the 1Bin image.
           • Change the height of the image to 3 cm, keeping the original proportions.
           • Apply ’Tight’ text wrapping to the image. (3)
1.6 Format the TWO paragraphs directly below the heading ’2. Why recycle?’ into
TWO columns with a spacing of 1 cm between the columns.
NOTE: The rest of the document must remain in ONE column. (3)
1.7 Insert a footnote on the word ’POPIA’ with the text ’Protection of Personal
         Information Act 4 of 2013’. (2)
1.8 Insert a comment on the word ’landfill’ with the text ’Add a definition’. (2)

1.9 Replace the text ’Question/Vraag 1.9’ with an automatic table of contents as
         follows:
           • Display only ONE level (Heading 1 entries).
           • The page numbers must be right aligned with a dotted (……) tab leader. (3)
1.10 Insert a section break so that the heading ’4. Drop-off points’ and the text that
follows it start on a new page with a landscape orientation.
NOTE: The rest of the document must remain in portrait orientation. (2)
Save and close the 1Ewaste document. [28]

QUESTION 3: SPREADSHEET
NOTE:
 • Use formulae and/or functions for ALL calculations in the spreadsheet.
 • Use absolute cell references ONLY where necessary to ensure that formulae are correct
when you copy it to other cells in a spreadsheet.
 • Insert formulae and/or functions in such a manner that the correct results will still be
obtained even if values are changed in the existing data.
 • Should you need to use building blocks, use the space allocated for this in the spreadsheet
   data file.

Open the 3Collect spreadsheet that contains information about the e-waste that ReBoot SA
collected from January to June 2026.
Work in the Collections worksheet.
3.1 Merge and centre cells A1:L1 and change the font size of the text to 16 pt. (2)
3.2 Use a spreadsheet feature to ensure that rows 1 to 7 always remain visible
when you scroll down in the worksheet. (2)
3.3 Format the dates in cells D8:D47 to display as in the following example: 18
         Jan 2026 (2)
3.4 Insert a function in cell D3 to determine the number of donations from schools. (2)
3.5 Insert a function in cell D4 to calculate the total mass (in kg) of the e-waste
         collected from businesses. (3)
3.6 Insert a function in cell D5 to determine the date of the first collection. (1)
3.7 The value of the e-waste is calculated by multiplying the mass by the rate per
kg for the device. The rates are given in the Rates worksheet.
Insert a function in cell J8 that uses a lookup function to calculate the value
         of the e-waste.
Copy the function to cell J47. (5)
3.8 ReBoot SA charges a collection fee, which is given in cell K3. No fee is
charged when the donor is a school OR when the mass of the donation is
         50 kg or more.
Insert a function in cell K8 to determine the collection fee for each donation.
Copy the function to cell K47. (6)
3.9 Insert a combination of functions in cell L8 to create a code for each donation,
         as follows:
           • The first TWO letters of the device in capital letters, followed by
           • The last THREE characters of the reference number (column A)
          Example: CE001
Copy the function to cell L47. (4)

Round the answer to ONE decimal place. (3)
3.11 Apply a spreadsheet feature to cells I8:I47 so that ALL the cells that contain
the word ’Faulty’ are displayed with a light red fill and dark red text. (3)
Work in the Summary worksheet.
3.12 Use the data in cells A1:B7 to create a chart that appears as shown below.

NOTE: Move the chart to a new chart sheet called Chart. (5)

QUESTION 6: GENERAL
Open the 6Schools spreadsheet that contains the details of schools that applied for
refurbished laptops.
6.1 Sort the data so that it is displayed in alphabetical order of province. Schools
in the same province must be sorted from the largest to the smallest number
         of learners. (3)
6.2 Change the page setup settings of the worksheet as follows:
           • The gridlines must print.
           • ALL the columns must fit on ONE page when printed.
Save the worksheet as a PDF file called 6Schools in your examination folder. (3)
Save and close the 6Schools spreadsheet.
6.3 ReBoot SA wants to send a letter to large schools in KwaZulu-Natal.
Open the 6Letter document and prepare the letters using mail merge as
         follows:
           • Use the 6Schools spreadsheet as the data source.
           • ONLY schools in KwaZulu-Natal with more than 1 000 learners must
             receive a letter.
           • Replace the text <<PRINCIPAL>> with the Principal field and the text
             <<SCHOOL>> with the SchoolName field.
           • Save the 6Letter document in your examination folder.
           • Complete the merge and save the merged document as 6Merged. (5)
Close the 6Letter and 6Merged documents.
6.4 The text file 6Volunteers contains the details of ReBoot SA’s volunteers. The
         fields are separated by commas.
Import the data in the 6Volunteers text file into a new spreadsheet so that
EACH field appears in a separate column, starting in cell A1.
Save the spreadsheet as 6Volunteers in the default spreadsheet format
         (.xlsx). (3)
Close the 6Volunteers spreadsheet. [14]
