                     network.                                                                 (2)
         3.1.2       Differentiate between a peer-to-peer network and a client-server
                     network.                                                                 (2)
         3.1.3 The network uses a star topology. State ONE disadvantage of a star
                     topology.                                                                (1)
         3.1.4 Differentiate between the functions of the switch and the router in
                     the diagram.                                                             (2)
3.2 The office has a fibre connection to the internet. The drivers use LTE on their
         cellphones while they are on the road.
         3.2.1 Give TWO advantages of a fibre connection compared to an LTE
                     connection for the office.                                               (2)
         3.2.2 Give ONE reason why an LTE connection is the most suitable
                     connection for the drivers.                                              (1)
         3.2.3 A driver uses her cellphone as a hotspot to share its internet
                     connection with her tablet, and the battery of the cellphone is often
                     flat before the end of the day. Give TWO ways in which she can
                     make the battery of her cellphone last longer. (2)
3.3 The company wants to replace its landline telephones with VoIP calls. Give
         TWO disadvantages of VoIP for the company. (2)
3.4 When a parcel is delivered, the driver takes a photograph of the parcel at
         the door of the customer and sends it to the office as proof of delivery. Every
         evening the office also e-mails a spreadsheet with the day’s deliveries to the
         owner.
         3.4.1 Give ONE reason why files are compressed before they are sent
                     over the internet.                                                       (1)
         3.4.2 Differentiate between lossy and lossless compression. (2)

                     suitable for EACH of the following and give a reason for EACH
                     answer:
                     (a) The photographs       (b) The spreadsheet                           (2)
3.5 The company has a static website with its contact details. It now wants
         customers to be able to type in a tracking number to see where their parcel
         is.
         3.5.1 Differentiate between a static website and a dynamic website. (2)
         3.5.2 Explain why the parcel-tracking page must be a dynamic web page. (1)
3.6 Customers can also track their parcels with the Ekhaya mobile app.
         3.6.1 Give TWO advantages for customers of using the mobile app rather
                     than the website in a browser. (2)

SECTION D: DATA AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
QUESTION 4
Ekhaya Courier Services uses a database to keep record of its customers, drivers and parcels.
The company has offices in Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Newcastle.
4.1 The owner is deciding whether to use a centralised (server) database or a
         distributed database.
         4.1.1 Differentiate between a centralised database and a distributed
                     database.                                                                (2)
         4.1.2 Give ONE advantage and ONE disadvantage of a distributed
                     database for the company.                                                (2)
         4.1.3 Name TWO functions of a database management system (DBMS). (2)
4.2 At first, all the data was captured in ONE table called tblDeliveries. Some of
         the records are shown below. (The data is fictitious.)
        ParcelID CustName CustCell DriverName DriverCell Destination WeightKg Delivered
        P1001 L. Ngcobo 0821234567 S. Mthembu 0739876543 Hilton             2.5   Yes
        P1002 K. Pillay   0614445566 S. Mthembu 0739876543 Howick          12.0    No

         4.2.1 Suggest the most suitable data type for EACH of the following fields:
                     (a) WeightKg      (b) Delivered                                          (2)
         4.2.2 Identify ONE example of data redundancy in the table. (1)
         4.2.3 Name and explain TWO types of anomalies that may occur in
                     tblDeliveries. Use examples from the table to support your answer. (4)
         4.2.4 The table must be split into THREE tables: tblCustomers,
                     tblDrivers and tblParcels. A customer can send many parcels and
                     a driver can deliver many parcels, but each parcel is sent by one
                     customer and delivered by one driver.

                     Draw the THREE tables in your ANSWER BOOK and do the
                     following:

                      • Allocate the fields of tblDeliveries to the correct tables and add
                        a suitable primary key to tblCustomers and tblDrivers.
                      • Indicate the primary key and the foreign key(s) of each table.
                      • Draw the relationships between the tables and indicate the type
                        of each relationship.
                                                                                              (5)
4.3 A clerk captured the weight of a parcel as 250 instead of 2.50. The company
         does not deliver parcels heavier than 30 kg.
         4.3.1 Name a validation check that would have prevented this error and
                     explain how it works.                                                    (2)

         4.3.2 Explain why validation cannot ensure that ALL the data that is
                     captured is correct.                                                 (1)
4.4 The company appointed a database programmer to develop the parcel
         database. Give TWO duties of a database programmer. (2)
4.5 The owner relies on the delivery reports produced by the database to plan
         the routes of the drivers. Explain what EACH of the following characteristics
         of quality data means in this context:
         (a) Accurate       (b) Relevant                                                  (2)

SECTION E: SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT
QUESTION 5
5.1 Every parcel receives a tracking code. The following Delphi statement has
         been executed:
             sCode := 'PMB-2026-KZN-0457';

         Write down the result of EACH of the following statements. Each statement
         uses the original value of sCode.
         5.1.1       iPos := Pos('-', sCode);                                                  (1)
         5.1.2       sYear := Copy(sCode, 5, 4);                                               (1)
         5.1.3       iNum := StrToInt(Copy(sCode, 14, 4)) + 1;                                 (1)
         5.1.4 Insert('X', sCode, 4); (Give the value of sCode.) (1)
5.2 The details of all deliveries are stored in a text file called Deliveries.txt.
         Each line contains the driver code, the destination and the distance in km,
         separated by a special character, for example:
             D104#Hilton#12.5

         5.2.1 Explain the purpose of the statement AssignFile(tFile,
                     'Deliveries.txt');                                                        (1)
         5.2.2 Explain why a WHILE NOT EOF(tFile) loop, and not a FOR loop,
                     is used to read the lines of the file. (1)
         5.2.3 The file Deliveries.txt does not exist when the program runs.
                     Explain what will happen when Reset is executed, and how
                     FileExists can be used to prevent this. (1)
         5.2.4 What is the general term for the character # that separates the data
                     in each line?                                                             (1)
5.3 Name the type of programming error (syntax, runtime or logical) in EACH of
         the following cases:
         (a) A semicolon is missing at the end of a statement, so the program cannot
         be compiled.
         (b) The user types 12a as the weight, and the program crashes on the
         statement rWeight := StrToFloat(edtWeight.Text);
         (c) The program uses rWeight > 30 instead of rWeight >= 30, so a
         parcel of exactly 30 kg is charged the wrong fee. (3)
5.4 Differentiate between a local variable and a global variable in a Delphi
         program.                                                                              (2)

5.5 The following Delphi code calculates the delivery fee of a parcel. The fee is
         based on the number of 2 kg units in the weight of the parcel.
             iWeight := 9;
             iUnits := 0;
             iFee := 40;
             while iWeight > 0 do
             begin
               Inc(iUnits);
               if iUnits <= 2 then
                  iFee := iFee + 10
               else
                  iFee := iFee + 15;
               iWeight := iWeight - 2;
             end;
             lblFee.Caption := 'R' + IntToStr(iFee);

         5.5.1 Copy and complete the trace table below in your ANSWER BOOK
                     to show the values of the variables while the code is executed.
                            iWeight > 0   iUnits   iUnits <= 2   iFee   iWeight

             arrParcels: array [1 .. 6] of Integer;

         5.6.1 Differentiate between an element and an index of an array, using

SECTION F: INTEGRATED SCENARIO
QUESTION 6
SCENARIO
 Ekhaya Courier Services has grown quickly. It now has 25 employees, a mobile app
 for customers and contracts with several online stores. The owner wants to protect the
 company’s data, manage how employees use the network and plan for the future.

6.1 A clerk downloaded a free ’route planner’ program from an unknown website.
         Soon afterwards, all the files on her computer were encrypted and a message
         appeared that demanded payment to unlock the files.
         6.1.1 Identify the type of malware that encrypted the files. (1)
         6.1.2 Give TWO ways in which the company could have prevented this
                     attack.                                                                      (2)
