INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION

1. This question paper consists of THREE sections:
SECTION A: ONE compulsory question (QUESTION 1) (20)
SECTION B: TWO compulsory questions (QUESTIONS 2 and 3) (40)
      SECTION C: THREE questions (QUESTIONS 4, 5 and 6) – answer TWO (40)
2. Answer ALL the questions in SECTION A and SECTION B, and any TWO questions in
      SECTION C.
3. If you answer more than TWO questions in SECTION C, only the first TWO questions
      will be marked.
4. Write ALL the answers in the ANSWER BOOK.
5. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system used in this question
      paper.
6. Start EACH section on a NEW page.
7. Write in FULL SENTENCES, except when you are asked to state, name, list or give
one word/term. In SECTION C your answers must be written in PARAGRAPHS; points
written as a list will not earn the marks for discussion.
8. The mark allocation for each question should guide you on the length and detail of your
answers. For example, (2 x 2) (4) means that TWO facts or points are required, each
worth TWO marks: one mark for the fact and one mark for an explanation or example.
(2 x 4) (8) means that TWO points must each be discussed in depth, using examples.
9. Leave a line open between subsections of questions.
10. Write neatly and legibly with a blue or black pen.
11.   The suggested time allocation is: SECTION A – 25 minutes; SECTION B – 45 minutes;
      SECTION C – 50 minutes.

QUESTION 2
Read the extract below and answer the questions that follow.

                                   LOVE OR CONTROL?
Lindiwe (17) has been dating Sbu (19) for six months. At first he was attentive and bought
her small gifts. Now he checks her phone every evening, insists that she shares her live
location with him and becomes angry when she replies late to his messages. He told her
to stop playing netball because “the coach looks at you”. When she spends time with her
friends, he says that they are a bad influence and that she only needs him.
Lindiwe often watches short videos by a popular influencer who tells her followers that “if
he doesn’t check your phone, he doesn’t really care”. She has begun to believe that Sbu’s
jealousy proves how much he loves her. Her friend Ayesha has noticed that Lindiwe looks
anxious, has stopped joining them at break and is falling behind with her assignments.

                                                                                       [20]

                                     FROM THE REPORT
More banks now offer services through cellphone apps, and several companies have

the district’s new solar farm and the expansion of the local hospital have created a

general-worker posts, because they cannot afford to study further or do not know about
 TVET colleges and learnerships.

3.5 Discuss TWO socio-economic factors that may prevent young people in
Thabana District from following the careers that are in demand. (2 x 2) (4)
3.6 Recommend THREE steps that Grade 11 learners could take during the
next year to prepare themselves for careers that are in demand. In EACH
answer, also indicate how the step would improve their chances of being
           employed. (3 x 2) (6)
