1.1 Lindiwe bakes muffins to sell at her school’s market day. Below is her recipe.

LINDIWE’S BANANA MUFFINS (makes 12 muffins)
              Ingredients: Method:
Mix all the ingredients together and
                     • 2 12 cups cake flour spoon the mixture into a 12-hole
                     • 180 g brown sugar muffin pan.
                     • 2 large eggs Bake at 180 ◦ C for 22 minutes.
                     • 250 mℓ milk NOTE: 1 cup = 250 mℓ
                     • 125 g butter, melted
                     • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
                                                                                   [Examiner’s own]
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
1.1.1 Convert the quantity of milk to litres. (2)
1.1.2 Name a measuring instrument that Lindiwe can use to measure the brown
                      sugar. (2)
1.1.3 Lindiwe wants to bake 30 muffins. Calculate the mass of brown sugar that
                      she will need. (3)
1.1.4 Lindiwe’s oven shows temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit (◦ F) only.
Convert the baking temperature to ◦ F.
                      You may use the following formula: ◦ F = (1,8 × ◦ C) + 32 (3)
1.1.5 She puts the muffins into the oven at 15:48. Write down the time at which
the muffins will be ready. (2)
1.2 Lindiwe also bakes a round cake in a cake tin with a diameter of 24 cm.
1.2.1 Write down the radius of the cake tin. (2)
1.2.2 Calculate the circumference of the cake tin.
You may use the following formula: Circumference = π × diameter,
                      using π = 3,142                                                                   (2)

QUESTION 4

4.1 ANNEXURE B in the ADDENDUM shows the floor plan of the Zamokuhle
Community Clinic, drawn to a scale of 1 : 100. Use ANNEXURE B to answer the
          questions that follow.
4.1.1 Write down the number of windows on the NORTHERN wall of the clinic. (2)
4.1.2 Name the room in the south-eastern corner of the clinic. (2)
          4.1.3 Explain the meaning of the scale 1 : 100. (2)
4.1.4 The waiting room measures 60 mm by 45 mm on the plan. Use the scale to
calculate its actual floor area in m2 . (4)
4.1.5 Each person in the waiting room needs at least 1,5 m2 of floor space.
Calculate the maximum number of people allowed in the waiting room. (2)
4.2 Nurse Mokoena measures a patient who is 1,62 m tall and has a mass of 71 kg. TABLE
2 shows how the body mass index (BMI) of an adult describes the adult’s weight
          status.

TABLE 2: BMI AND WEIGHT STATUS OF ADULTS

            BMI (kg/m2 ) Below 18,5 18,5 – 24,9 25,0 – 29,9 30,0 and above
WEIGHT STATUS Underweight Normal weight Overweight Obese

[Adapted from the World Health Organization adult BMI categories]
                                                              mass (in kg)
You may use the following formula: BMI =
                                                            (height (in m))2
4.2.1 Calculate the patient’s BMI, rounded to ONE decimal place. (3)
4.2.2 Use TABLE 2 to write down the patient’s weight status. (2)
4.2.3 Calculate the mass (in kg) the patient must lose to reach a BMI of 24,9. (3)
4.3 During one week the clinic recorded the reasons why 240 patients visited the clinic.
          The results are shown below.
Reason for visit Chronic medication Vaccination Consultation TOTAL
              Patients 96 60 84 240

4.3.1 Determine, as a percentage, the probability that a randomly chosen patient
                     came for a vaccination. (2)
4.3.2 Use ONE word from the list to describe your answer to QUESTION 4.3.1:
impossible; unlikely; even chance; likely; certain (2)

4.3.3 The clinic expects 1 000 patients next month. Predict how many will come
                     for chronic medication. (2)
                                                                                                        [26]
                                                                                             TOTAL: 100
