2.2 Solve for x, WITHOUT using a calculator:
                              1
          2.2.1      2x+1 =                                                                          (3)
                              16
          2.2.2      5x+1 + 5x = 150                                                                 (3)
          2.2.3      log3 (2x − 1) = 2                                                               (3)
          2.2.4      log x + log(x − 3) = 1                                                          (5)
2.3       Solve for x, correct to TWO decimal places:      3x = 20                                   (2)
2.4 The kinetic energy (E) of a moving object is given by the formula:
                                                   1
                                                E = mv2
                                                   2
          Where: E = kinetic energy (J)
                 m = mass of the object (kg)
                 v = speed of the object (m/s)
          2.4.1 Make v the subject of the formula. (2)
          2.4.2 Hence, calculate the speed of a trolley with a mass of 100 kg if its kinetic
                     energy is 1 250 J.                                                              (2)
                                                                                                    [29]

QUESTION 3

3.1       Solve for x:
          3.1.1      (2x − 3)(x + 4) = 0                                                               (2)
          3.1.2      3x2 − x − 5 = 0    (correct to TWO decimal places)                                (4)
          3.1.3      x2 + 2x − 15 ≤ 0                                                                  (3)

                     2 x
3.2       Solve for x and y simultaneously:

                                   y − 2x = 1      and      x2 + y2 = 13

                                                                                                       (6)
