QUESTION 3

3.1 The Dlamini family bought a two-bedroom house. ANNEXURE B in the
ADDENDUM shows the floor plan of the house, drawn to a scale of 1 : 50.
Use ANNEXURE B to answer the questions that follow.
3.1.1 Write down the number of windows shown on the floor plan. (2)
3.1.2 Name the room that is in the north-eastern corner of the house. (2)
3.1.3 Write down the general direction of BEDROOM 1 from the kitchen. (2)
3.1.4 Name the type of scale used on the floor plan. (2)
3.1.5 The length of the house on the floor plan measures 160 mm.
Use the scale to determine the actual length of the house in metres. (4)
3.1.6 Calculate the floor area of BEDROOM 1 in m2 .
You may use the following formula: Area of a rectangle = length × width (3)
3.1.7 The lounge floor will be tiled with square tiles of 600 mm × 600 mm.
Calculate the minimum number of tiles needed to tile the lounge floor. (4)
3.1.8 Tiles are sold in boxes of 4 tiles at R289,90 per box.
Calculate the total cost of the tiles for the lounge. (4)
3.2 Mrs Dlamini is preparing for a family celebration in the new house.
          3.2.1 She has 2,5 ℓ of juice concentrate. Convert 2,5 ℓ to mℓ. (2)
3.2.2 The weather forecast predicts a maximum temperature of 25 ◦ C. Convert
                     this temperature to degrees Fahrenheit.
                     You may use the following formula: ◦ F = (1,8 × ◦ C) + 32 (3)

QUESTION 4

4.1 Mr Ndlovu gave a Mathematical Literacy test out of 50 to two groups, Group A and
Group B. The marks of the learners are given below.

                  Group A 12 18 21 25 25 28 30 33 35 38 41 46
                  Group B 15 20 22 24 27 27 27 31 32 36 39 44

Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
4.1.1 Write down the modal mark for Group B. (2)
4.1.2 Determine the range of the marks for Group A. (2)
4.1.3 Calculate the median mark for Group A. (3)
4.1.4 Calculate the mean mark for Group B. (3)
4.1.5 Determine the interquartile range (IQR) of the marks for Group A.
                     You may use the following formula: IQR = Q3 − Q1 (4)
4.1.6 A learner passes the test with a mark of 25 or more. Determine, as a
percentage, the probability that a learner chosen at random from Group
                     A passed the test. (3)
4.2 A survey was conducted among 100 Grade 11 and 100 Grade 12 learners about how
they travel to school. The results are shown in TABLE 4 below.

TABLE 4: MODE OF TRANSPORT TO SCHOOL

          follow.
4.2.1 Name the type of graph shown on the ANSWER SHEET. (2)

                     Grade 12 learners. (4)
4.2.4 Determine the percentage of ALL the learners surveyed who travel to
                     school by taxi. (3)
                                                                                                       [28]

QUESTION 5

5.1 The Mokoena family is planning a weekend trip by car from Johannesburg to
          Gaborone in Botswana.
          Information about the trip:

              • Exchange rate: 1 Botswana pula (BWP) = R1,33
              • Distance from Johannesburg to Gaborone: 360 km
              • Fuel consumption of the car: 7,5 ℓ per 100 km
              • Price of petrol: R21,85 per litre

Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
          5.1.1 Convert R5 000 to Botswana pula. (2)
5.1.2 The hotel costs BWP 1 450 per night. The family stays for 3 nights.
Calculate the total cost of the hotel in rand. (3)
5.1.3 The bank charges a commission of 1,5% to exchange money. Calculate the
                     commission on R5 000. (2)
5.1.4 Calculate the cost of the petrol for the trip from Johannesburg to Gaborone
                     (one way). (4)
5.1.5 The family leaves Johannesburg at 07:30 and drives at an average speed of
90 km/h. They spend 45 minutes at the border post.
Determine the time at which they will arrive in Gaborone.
You may use the following formula: Distance = speed × time (4)
5.2 At a school fun day, learners play a game using a spinner with 8 equal sections
          numbered 1 to 8, and a coin.
5.2.1 Write down the probability of spinning an even number. (2)
5.2.2 Determine, as a decimal, the probability of spinning a number greater than
                     6. (2)
5.2.3 A learner spins the spinner and tosses the coin once. Write down the total
                     number of possible outcomes. (2)
5.2.4 Calculate, as a percentage, the probability of spinning a 3 AND getting
                     heads. (3)
5.3 The weather forecast for Gaborone predicts a 30% chance of rain on Saturday.
5.3.1 Write down, as a decimal, the probability that it will NOT rain on Saturday. (2)
5.3.2 Use a word from the list below to describe the chance of rain on Saturday.
impossible; unlikely; even chance; likely; certain (2)

5.3.3 Should the family pack an umbrella? Give a reason for your answer. (2)
                                                                                                    [30]
