Senior Phase – Marking Guidelines
Hlayiso/Mock 2026
NOTES TO MARKERS
• Candidates answer TWO of the FOUR sections (each 50 marks). If more than two
sections were answered, mark only the FIRST TWO sections answered.
• Each ✓represents ONE mark. These marking guidelines are not exhaustive: accept
any other relevant, correct answer and use professional judgement, especially for
open-ended and creative questions.
• Where a set number of answers is asked for (e.g. TWO), mark only the FIRST answers
given, up to that number.
• Multiple-choice and matching questions: accept only ONE letter per item. Accept the full
answer written out instead of the letter, if it is clearly correct. True/False: accept T/F.
• Spelling: accept phonetically recognisable spelling of terms, except where the term itself
is being tested in a matching item.
• Do not penalise the same error twice.
