QUESTION 4: PRICE THEORY
4.1 State the law of demand. (2)
4.2 Learners at a school in Mamelodi sell vetkoek at their market day. The
demand and supply schedule below shows how many vetkoek learners want
to buy and how many the sellers are willing to sell at different prices.
Demand and supply schedule for vetkoek
Price (R) Quantity demanded Quantity supplied
                        5 160 20
                        10 130 60
                        15 100 100
                        20 70 140

4.2.1 Use the schedule to draw the demand curve and the supply curve
on the same set of axes on the grid in the ANSWER BOOK. Clearly
label the axes, the two curves and the equilibrium point. (5)
4.2.2 Identify the equilibrium price of vetkoek. (1)

                                 THUSO BAKERY (PTY) LTD
Mr Lesiba Thuso owns Thuso Bakery in Polokwane. The bakery supplies bread and cakes
to schools, hospitals and spaza shops. Mr Thuso sets the goals of the business and makes
the final decisions. His staff each look after a different part of the business:

      • Palesa interviews and appoints new bakers and arranges their training.
      • Kagiso orders flour, sugar and yeast from suppliers at the best prices.
      • Neo designs the bakery’s posters and runs its adverts on social media.
      • Sizwe insures the delivery vans and makes sure that fire extinguishers are in place.

Every Friday the bakery donates fresh bread to a children’s home in Seshego, and a local
radio station often reports on this.
                                                                     [Examiner’s own case study]

QUESTION 8: BUSINESS PLAN
Read the case study below and answer the questions that follow.
                               SHINE-ON MOBILE CAR WASH
Aphiwe Nkosi (19) from Mamelodi started Shine-On Mobile Car Wash in January 2026 with
R2 500 that she saved from part-time work. She bought a second-hand pressure washer,
buckets and cloths, and she washes cars at her customers’ homes and offices. She
charges R80 per car. Customers love her friendly, reliable service, and her business page
already has 1 200 followers on social media.
Aphiwe pays R300 per month to rent a storeroom for her equipment, and she spends about
R12 on soap and polish for every car that she washes. She does not own a vehicle, so she
carries her equipment by taxi. This limits her to six cars per day.
Several offices in nearby Silverton have asked whether she can wash their company cars
every week. However, water restrictions are expected in the area this summer, and a large
car-wash chain plans to open a branch at the shopping mall close to her customers.
Aphiwe dreams of owning three bakkies and employing ten young people from her
community within the next five years.
                                                                   [Examiner’s own case study]

8.1 Explain why Aphiwe should draw up a business plan for Shine-On Mobile Car
         Wash. (2)
8.2 Complete the SWOT analysis for Shine-On Mobile Car Wash in the ANSWER
BOOK. Quote or give ONE point from the case study for each of the four
         components. (4)
8.3 Identify ONE fixed cost and ONE variable cost of the business from the case
         study. (2)
8.4 Aphiwe’s dream of owning three bakkies within five years is an example of a
(short-term/long-term) goal. Choose the correct answer. (1)
8.5 Indicate in which component of the business plan (marketing plan, financial
plan or operational plan) each of the following pieces of information should
         be included:
8.5.1 She charges R80 per car and advertises her business on social
                     media.
8.5.2 She started the business with R2 500 of her own savings. (2)
                                                                                         [11]
                                                                    TOTAL SECTION C: 30
