SECTION B – SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES

QUESTION 2 – HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

Technology in education is the biggest change in teaching we will ever see. For years,
policy makers, teachers, parents, and students alike have been weighing the potential
benefits of technology in education against its risks and consequences. But now the
debate is more pressing than ever, as curricula increasingly incorporate technology and
teachers experiment with new teaching methods…on one hand, technology allows you
to experiment and on the other hand, some argue technology in the classroom can be
distracting and even foster cheating. (Extract taken from www.tophat.com)

each to support your explanation. Use information from this table in your
              example. (4)
        (c) There is a design issue specific to the Address field in the tblClient
table. Explain what it is and how it can be resolved. (2)

4.1.3 The ItemCode field is the primary key field in the tblStock table. Explain what
is meant by the term primary key. (2)

4.1.4 The Order Date in the tblClient table will require validation when it is entered.
Name the type of validation that needs to be done AND explain why it will be
        necessary. (2)

4.1.5 The validation measure discussed above will help to ensure the logical
integrity of this database. Explain what is meant by the term logical integrity. (1)

4.1.6 Validation may not be necessary if direct data capturing techniques such as
RFID are used. Give a practical example of how Gio's Garden Supplies can
use RFID to better manage their stock. (2)

4.1.7 You need to redesign this database in order to normalise it. To do so you will
need to add a third table. Draw a diagram to show the three tables and how
they will be related to each other. Pay attention to the following:

        • Clearly show the name of each table. Example table:
        • Draw the tables showing the field names tblStock
only – use the example on the right as a
guide. Note that this shows the current PK/FK Field name
design of the tblStock table and is only
          meant as a guide. ItemCode
        • Base your design on the original tables as Description
          shown on the previous page.
        • Clearly show the primary and foreign keys CostPrice
          in each table where appropriate.
        • Clearly indicate the relationships between SellingPrice
          the tables. QuantityInStock

                                                                                              (7)

4.2 Gio's Garden Supplies runs their business from a small warehouse and an
office where two staff members process the orders through the database
        using two computers.

4.2.1 Is a desktop database or a server-based database the best option for this
        business? (1)

4.2.2 Provide a reason for your answer to 4.2.1. (1)

                                                                  TOTAL SECTION D: 25

QUESTION 5: ALGORITHMS AND PLANNING

The National Parks Board uses the interface below as a booking form for Hikers that want
to book a hiking excursion. The different types of available hikes can be categorised as
'3-day', '7-day' and 'same-day'.

5.1 Numbers 1–3 indicate edit boxes for data input.
NOTE: In questions 5.1.1 - 5.1.3 you are not allowed to reuse the same
component for more than one answer.

5.1.1 Indicate a more appropriate input component to ensure that valid data is
         entered in section 1. (1)

5.1.2 Indicate a more appropriate input component to ensure that valid data is
         entered in section 2. (1)

5.1.3 Indicate a more appropriate input component to ensure that valid data is
         entered in section 3. (1)

5.2 Hikers can log in on the Parks Board’s website or portal to access information
        and book hiking trails.

Below is an incomplete class diagram for an object class that was created to
        record information to a website.

                                        Hiking
         - fHikingType (String)
         - fTotalDue (integer)
         - fStartDate (double)
         - fEndDate (double)
         - fNumAdults (integer)
         - fNumChildren (integer)
+ constructor(HikingType, numAdults, numChildren, startDate, endDate)
         - calcTotalDue()
         + toString()

5.2.1 Motivate why it is NOT necessary to have the field fTotalDue as an attribute
        of the class. (1)

5.2.2 Explain the purpose of a toString method. (2)

5.2.3 An object's attributes should be encapsulated. Define the term
        encapsulation. (2)

5.2.4 Identify whether the method calcTotalDue() is a function or a procedure. (1)

5.2.5 Define a method that can be added to the class diagram that receives a
parameter and changes the HikingType attribute. (2)

5.3 Answer the questions below on general aspects and concepts related to
        programming.

5.3.1 Explain what is meant by the term logical error. (2)

5.3.2 Explain what is meant by debugging a program. (2)

5.3.3 Looping is a common programming structure.
Redraw the table below and compare a WHILE…DO loop and a
REPEAT…UNTIL loop based on the following features:

              FEATURE WHILE...DO REPEAT…UNTIL

         Structure

         Probability of
         execution
                                                                                           (2)

5.4 The athlete numbers of at least 1 000 long distance athletes are stored in an
array called arrAthleteNum. The final position of the athletes in a race are
stored in a parallel array called arrRacePosition.
Example of the first seven athlete numbers and positions in the respective
        arrays:

         arrAthleteNum arrRacePosition
             A00100 872
             A00101 231
             A00102 187
             A00103 648
             A00104 52
             A00105 210
             A00106 15

The following Delphi code was used to enter an athlete number and update
        the athlete's race position:

          1     sAthlete := edtAthletenumber.text;
          2     for K := 1 to Length(arrAthleteNum) do
          3 if arrAthleteNum[K] = sAthlete then
          4            arrRacePosition[K] :=
          5 StrToInt(InputBox('Update position',
          6              'Enter new position for athlete', '0'));

Write pseudo code that uses a more effective search technique that will
terminate the search process when the update has been done or when the
end of the array is reached.

NOTE: Marks will be deducted if Delphi code is given in your solution. (8)

                                                                  TOTAL SECTION E: 25

SECTION F: INTEGRATED SCENARIO

QUESTION 6

In times of pandemics, like the current outbreak of Covid-19, there are strict rules imposed
on the citizens of our country to stem the tide of the pandemic: social distancing, the
wearing of masks, and reduced attendance at schools and at the workplace. In times like
these electronic communications are of the utmost importance.

6.1 A community worker wants the public to know all about his efforts and work
in the community, so he created a page on Facebook.

6.1.1 Recommend TWO ways in which the community worker can maintain a good
profile of his efforts in the community on Facebook. (2)

6.1.2 He discovers that there is a troll posting messages on the page. What is
         meant by a troll? (2)

6.1.3 The community worker entered all his personal details on the Facebook page
including his name, phone number, email address and ID number.
Explain why this was foolish of him by giving ONE way in which publishing
his ID number and ONE way in which publishing his phone number could be
         used against him. (2)

6.1.4 Name another social media platform (other than Facebook) that the
community worker could use and describe how it would be effective. (2)

6.2 Unfortunately, increased electronic communication leads to increased risks.
With increased electronic communication computers can pick up malware.
Name TWO examples of malware and outline the dangers they pose and how
you could protect your computer against it. Draw a copy of the following table
on your answer sheet and use it to tabulate your answers.

Type of malware Danger of the Protection
                               malware
                                                                                               (6)

6.3 A company has asked all their employees to electronically work from home.

6.3.1 Name a type of job where this “working from home” can be implemented
         successfully. (1)

6.3.2 Give THREE things that have to be in place to make working from home
         successful. (3)

6.3.3 Give an example of a type of job where working from home is not an option. (1)

6.3.4 Many companies make it possible for workers to work from anywhere by
accessing the company network using either a VPN connection or remote
access software e.g. remote desktop. Which of the two options is safer? Give
a reason for your answer. (2)

6.3.5 Some people might want to work from home using their mobile devices.
        (a) State TWO disadvantages of using mobile devices for this purpose. (2)
        (b) Suggest TWO ways in which the battery life of mobile devices can be
              improved. (2)

6.3.6 Monday morning usually starts with a staff meeting. As most people are
working from home this is a virtual staff meeting.
        (a) Name ONE such program for virtual meetings. (1)
        (b) Name THREE hardware requirements needed for such a virtual
              meeting. (3)
        (c) Name ONE advantage of having such a virtual meeting rather than a
              teleconference. (1)
        (d) Name TWO other advantages of having virtual meetings. (2)
        (e) In which way can virtual meetings be abused by outsiders? (2)

6.3.7 Many managers/companies have concerns when their employees work from
home. Name ONE such concern. (1)

                                                                  TOTAL SECTION F: 35

                                                        EXAM PAPER TOTAL: 150
