Pinocchio

that he had made. His house was filled with clocks and wooden toys that he had made
over the years.

2 "I will call you Pinocchio," said Geppetto. He lay the puppet down and gazed out the
window. He looked at a star in the sky and wished for Pinocchio to become a real boy.
3 That night, the same star swished right into Geppetto’s room in the form of a fairy!
She pointed her wand at Pinocchio and recited a spell. Suddenly, Pinocchio was able
to move and speak.
4 “Am I a real boy?” Pinocchio asked. “Not yet,” said the fairy. “If you prove yourself to
be truthful and unselfish, then someday you will become one.” With that piece of
advice, the fairy disappeared.
5 When Geppetto woke up, he was surprised to see that Pinocchio was alive. He danced
around the room with joy. Geppetto asked Pinocchio how he come to life. Pinocchio
immediately told a tall tale. He said that witches came to the room in the night and turned
him into a special boy with magical powers.
6 With each new lie, Pinocchio’s nose grew longer and longer, until it was as long as the
branch of a tree. “My nose, what happened to it?” he cried. Suddenly the fairy appeared
in the room. “Perhaps you haven’t been telling the truth,” the fairy told Pinocchio.
7 From then on, Pinocchio began telling the truth and his nose became shorter and
shorter, until it was back to normal. Pinocchio learnt his lesson and never told another
lie again.
