INSTRUCTIONS TO MARKERS
1. Mark according to the provincial examination guidelines.
2. Consider all realistic / relevant answers.
3. Do not expand the memorandum with your own answers as this is a common
provincial paper / task, and should assist in fair and valid assessment across the
province.
4. Adhere to the memorandum throughout the marking process as the questions are
content specific ad the questions should reflect taught and assessed.
5. Mark accurately and always check the all calculations and transfer of marks.
6. At least 10 % of answer scripts should be remarked by the HOD/subject head/
senior teacher as part of the post moderation process.
7. Remember we are working with learners’ future, so let us be fair, valid and just in
assessing their work.

5.1.3 Evaluate finances and affordability as one of the socio-economic factors that
affect career choices; refer to the following;
- Bursary-
An amount of money a student is offered to help pay for
tertiary studies, this is done because a student has performed well or does not
have money to further studies, the student does not have to repay the bursary
but has to work hard to get the bursary each year
- Student Loan-
Money borrowed from a bank, to be repaid with interest, some companies offer
loans but you will have to repay by working for them for some time.
- Scholarship
Some companies, businesses and organisations offer scholarships to students if
they have done well in studies or sport, to retain the scholarship the student has
to keep on performing.

SECTION C
The learner should only answer THREE questions in this section.
If the learner has answered all FOUR questions, disregard the FOURTH answer and credit
only the first three.
Delete the FOURTH answer, by drawing a line through it, and mark it EQ (Extra
Question).
Adhere to the memorandum when marking section C, as the questions are content specific
and learners should interpret and apply their acquired content knowledge. Do not credit
irrelevant responses.
QUESTION 6 Democracy and human rights
Read the extract and answer questions that follow:
TWO human rights as far as HIV&AIDS is concerned
- Testing is voluntary, nobody can force anybody to get tested

Explain in THREE points why discrimination against HIV positive or people living
with AIDS is wrong.

Write an essay in which you respond to questions that follow on study skills:
Explain the following concepts critical thinking
Critical thinking - One will evaluate and judge ideas, keep an open mind but not
accept everything as true (1x2) (2)
Creative thinking- One will generate or make new ideas, think in different ways and give
unusual solutions or ideas (1x2) (2)
Describe any THREE questions asked by critical thinkers.
- Is that a fact? - can you prove it?
- Is that an opinion? - what another person thinks- should be supported
with facts to prove it is true.
