2 QUESTION 1: COMPREHENSION (15 MARKS) Read the questions first, then the passage. Thereafter, answer the questions The Chocolate Room 1 Mr Willy Wonka, the owner of the chocolate factory, led the group into a huge room. Inside they saw a lovely valley ahead, which had green meadows, a great brown river and a huge waterfall. 2 Below the waterfall, there were glass pipes dangling down into the river. They were sucking up the brownish muddy water from the river and carrying it away to other rooms in the factory. 3 “There!” cried Mr Wonka, “It's all chocolate! Every drop of that river is hot melted chocolate of the finest quality. The waterfall is most important! It mixes the chocolate, pounds it and makes it light and frothy! Everything in this room is edible!” 4 Automatically, everybody started eating. Augustus Gloop took a big handful of grass and shoved it in his mouth. Violet Beauregarde, ate a flower and Charlie had a leaf from a tree. 5 Suddenly, Veruca Salt screamed. “Look over there! It's a little person! Down there below the waterfall!” 6 The tiny men, who looked like medium-sized dolls, were staring back across the river at the visitors. “They can't be real people,” Augustus said. “Of course, they are real people,” Mr Wonka answered. “They're Oompa-Loompas!” Source: An Adapted Extract from Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Roald Dahl Words count: 199 words
