sugar. (2)
1.1.3 Lindiwe wants to bake 30 muffins. Calculate the mass of brown sugar that
she will need. (3)
1.1.4 Lindiwe’s oven shows temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit (◦ F) only.
Convert the baking temperature to ◦ F.
You may use the following formula: ◦ F = (1,8 × ◦ C) + 32 (3)
1.1.5 She puts the muffins into the oven at 15:48. Write down the time at which
the muffins will be ready. (2)
1.2 Lindiwe also bakes a round cake in a cake tin with a diameter of 24 cm.

QUESTION 2
2.1 ANNEXURE A in the ADDENDUM shows a street map of the central part of
Sizanani, a small town.
Use ANNEXURE A to answer the questions that follow.
2.1.1 Identify the type of scale used on the map. (2)
2.1.2 Write down the grid reference of the police station. (2)
2.1.3 Give the general direction of the church from the taxi rank. (2)
2.1.4 Thabo follows these directions:
Start at the taxi rank and walk east along Main Road. Turn left into Station
Road and walk north. Cross Church Street. The building on your right-hand
side is your destination.
Name Thabo’s destination. (2)
2.1.5 The straight-line distance on the map between the taxi rank and the
shopping mall is 10 cm.
Use the bar scale to determine the actual straight-line distance, in
kilometres, between the taxi rank and the shopping mall. (4)
2.1.6 A visitor chooses ONE of the eight labelled places on the map (the
seven buildings and the park) at random. Determine, as a percentage, the
probability that the place is NORTH of Main Road. (3)
2.2 Mr Sithole lives in Sizanani. He drives 270 km to a meeting in Polokwane. He leaves
home at 06:45 and arrives in Polokwane at 09:45. On the way he stops for 15 minutes
to buy fuel and coffee.
2.2.1 Calculate Mr Sithole’s average driving speed in km/h, excluding the time
he stopped.
distance
You may use the following formula: Average speed = (4)
time
2.2.2 Mr Sithole’s car uses 7,2 litres of petrol per 100 km. The price of petrol is
R22,15 per litre.
Calculate the cost of the petrol for the return trip (there and back) from
Sizanani to Polokwane. (5)

and 7,5 m wide.
VEGETABLE GARDEN 7,5 m
12 m
The garden will be fenced and compost will be added to the soil.
Information:
• Fencing is sold in rolls of 15 m at R389,95 per roll.
• 2,5 kg of compost is needed for every 1 m2 of the garden.
• Compost is sold in 30 kg bags at R64,99 per bag.
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
3.1.1 Calculate the perimeter of the garden.
You may use the following formula: Perimeter = 2 × (length + width) (2)
3.1.2 Calculate the cost of the fencing needed to fence the whole garden. (4)
3.1.3 Calculate the area of the garden.
You may use the following formula: Area = length × width (2)
3.1.4 Calculate the total cost of the compost needed for the garden. (4)
3.2 The garden is watered from a cylindrical water tank that collects rainwater from the
roof of the school hall. The tank has a diameter of 180 cm and a height of 2,2 m.
