Downloaded from hlayiso.com
OUTCOMES
Describe and adhere to all safety precautions according to work site requirements
and OHS act’
Avoid safety hazards
Interpret work instruction sheet and drawing requirements
Demonstrate the gas welding process
Conduct quality checks

LEVEL 3
Oxy acetylene safety precautions according to worksite requirements and OHS act
Before using oxy-acetylene equipment, you have to be instructed in the safe
operation and use of the equipment.
All applicable PPE have to be worn while performing these procedure.
Your work area has to be closed off to prevent the possible hazards of your
acetylene welding process from affecting anyone close to you.
Do not perform oxy-acetylene welding on a part that contain flammable substance

LEVEL 3
Avoiding safety hazards
Eliminate the possible safety hazards before the welding process started, the chance of
hazards occurring during welding process will be greatly reduced.
Welder should always be on his/her guard while welding in order that possible safety
hazards
Work instruction sheet and drawing requirements
A work instruction sheet will be provided with each welding job to inform the welder about
what should be done during welding job
Along with the work instruction sheet the manufacturing drawing should also be used to
determine how the welding process should be done
If you make this a common practice will be able to deliver work pieces that are correct and
accurate.

LEVEL3
Demonstrating the gas welding process
Set up the welding station neatly and in an organise manner
Produce the 1st weld using the down hand position for a butt weld
Produce second weld using vertical position for a butt weld
Produce the 3rd weld using the down hand position for a fillet weld
Quality checks
After work piece has been welded a quality check has to performed on it before it can be sent to
the next step in manufacturing process
During quality checks process the final work piece has to be checked against the manufacturing
drawing to ensure that it adhere to all the dimensions and alignments given on drawing
Various welding defects can occur during the oxy-acetylene process: lack of fusion, poor

penetration, excessive welding
LEARNING ACTIVITY
1. Name 10 oxy-acetylene safety precautions according to worksite requirements
and OHS act
2. How would you demonstrate the gas welding process
3. Name 5 welding defects that can occur during the oxy-acetylene welding process

LEVEL 3
In this unit you have learned about the oxy acetylene welding safety precautions
according the work piece requirements and the OHS act, how to avoid the safety
hazards, how to use interpret a work instruction sheet and manufacturing drawing
and how to do quality checks
