Make 2-D scale cut-outs of the top view of 3-D objects continued… Unit 8.1 Method to make and arrange 2-D cut-outs of 3-D objects Step 2 • Draw the plan of the room. A typical scale is 2 cm represents 1 metre. • Use grid paper and mark positions of the windows and doors, using the correct floor plan symbols. • Mark the positions and sizes of any built-in furniture. Building 3-D scale models Unit 8.2 • Architects and designers often produce 3-D models of their building designs to show their clients. • The model shows exactly what the house will look like. • The measurements of the model are correct to the scale of the house. Client A person who uses the services of a professional person, like a customer. ” Downloaded from hlayiso.com Maths Lit NQF Level 2
How to make a model building Unit 8.2 Materials • measurement tools - rulers, tape measures, grid paper and floor plans • materials for the models e.g. corrugated cardboard, foam board, paper, recycled materials • tape, paper glue, wood glue • cutting tools, scissors, craft knives • materials to decorate the house e.g. paint, paper coverings, clear plastic for windows. Downloaded from hlayiso.com Maths Lit NQF Level 2
How to make a model building Unit 8.2 The Process • Measure and decide on the scale. Start with a 2-D floor plan. • Get all the measurements of the house e.g. the highest and lowest points of the roof, the door and window sizes. • Convert all your measurements according to your scale. • Draw a draft of all parts of the model. Use the scale measurements. Downloaded from hlayiso.com Maths Lit NQF Level 2

Example 8.1 page 155 continued ... Unit 8.1 • Draw a floor plan of a living room using the scale 1 : 50. • Make cut-outs of the furniture you want to arrange in it to the same scale, and show how you would arrange it. Downloaded from hlayiso.com Maths Lit NQF Level 2
Example 8.1 page 155 continued ... Unit 8.1 Step 1: Draw a room of length 4 m and breadth 4 m. Imagine there are two windows and one door.
