Directorate: Curriculum FET 2020 ACCOUNTING TUTORING NOTES TO THE TUTOR Dear Accounting Tutor Thank you very much for availing yourself, your time and expertise to support the Accounting learners in your district. Your positive attitude and confidence in your own content knowledge should inspire learners to: - work diligently and use the time in each tutoring session very effectively - work INDIVIDUALLY and engage with the material - ask questions and/or help in certain aspects (be approachable - allow time for it) - work against time on at least ONE activity (or part thereof) during each session to guide learners in their time management in tests/exams - COME BACK for MORE ..... Please keep the following in mind: 1. The focus is NOT to teach and catch up on curriculum backlog. The tutor is the facilitator in consolidating the work covered in class. 2. Make learners feel welcome and ensure that each session is very DIFFERENT from their own classes at school!!! Be enthusiastic. Make learning FUN again without losing focus on the work at hand. They must want more... 3. Learners MUST be given the opportunity to WORK during the session and not listen to lengthy 'lessons'. Let them 'discover' how much they actually know. 4. The pre-test results should indicate which aspects need to be consolidated the most. The test should, therefore, be written in the first 20 minutes of the first session. The post-test should be written at the start of the last session. The learner should be given feedback on their results for both tests. The purpose is to measure the progress and impact of the tutoring sessions. 5. Learners could also indicate which aspects/topics they want to work on. The tutor should, therefore, be PREPARED to support learners in any of the activities included in the material. 6. The activities included in the material were identified to facilitate REVISION and CONSOLIDATION. Try to support learners individually as far as possible. Thank you once again for all your efforts! Make every minute count! Yours in Accounting Elmaree Eksteen SCP: Accounting
