Mathematical Literacy/P2 3 Hlayiso/Mock 2026 NSC Mock QUESTION 1 1.1 TABLE 1 below shows a list of quantities (COLUMN A) and units of measurement (COLUMN B). TABLE 1: QUANTITIES AND UNITS COLUMN A: QUANTITY COLUMN B: UNIT 1.1.1 The mass of a bag of mealie meal A litre (ℓ) 1.1.2 The temperature of bath water B metre (m) 1.1.3 The capacity of a kettle C degrees Celsius (◦ C) 1.1.4 The length of a soccer field D kilogram (kg) E square centimetre (cm2 ) Choose the unit from COLUMN B that matches the quantity in COLUMN A. Write only the letter (A–E) next to the question numbers (1.1.1 to 1.1.4), e.g. 1.1.5 F. (4) 1.2 The Grade 10 learners of Phakama Secondary School organise a 5 km fun run on a Saturday morning to raise funds for their school library. 1.2.1 The prize-giving ceremony will start at 1:45 p.m. Write this time in the 24-hour format. (2) 1.2.2 The race starts at 08:15. Lindiwe completes the race in 37 minutes and 50 seconds. Determine the time at which she crosses the finishing line. (2) 1.3 The organisers make an energy drink for the runners from powder. The instructions on the tub of powder are given below. ENERGY DRINK POWDER (500 g tub) Mixing instructions: Mix 3 tablespoons of powder with 750 mℓ of cold water. NOTE: 1 tablespoon = 15 mℓ 1 tablespoon of powder has a mass of 10 g [Examiner’s own] Use the information above to answer the questions that follow. 1.3.1 Convert 3 tablespoons to millilitres. (2) 1.3.2 The organisers want to make 30 litres of energy drink. Determine the number of 500 g tubs of powder that they must buy. NOTE: 1 ℓ = 1 000 mℓ (4) 1.4 A weather app that is set to American units forecasts a maximum temperature of 77 ◦ F for the day of the fun run. Convert this temperature to degrees Celsius (◦ C). You may use the following formula: ◦ C = (◦ F − 32) ÷ 1,8 (3) [17] Copyright reserved Please turn over
Mathematical Literacy/P2 4 Hlayiso/Mock 2026 NSC Mock QUESTION 2 2.1 ANNEXURE A shows the floor plan of the Mahlangu family’s house. The plan is drawn to the number scale 1 : 100. Use ANNEXURE A to answer the questions that follow. 2.1.1 Explain what is meant by the term floor plan. (2) 2.1.2 Give the general direction of the kitchen from the main bedroom. (2) 2.1.3 A visitor enters the house through the front door. Describe the route that she must follow to get to bedroom 2. (3) 2.1.4 Name the TWO rooms that have windows that will receive sunlight in the early morning. (2) 2.1.5 Explain the meaning of the scale 1 : 100. (2) 2.1.6 On the printed plan, the lounge measures 6,5 cm from west to east. Use the scale to determine the actual length of the lounge in metres. (3) 2.1.7 On the printed plan, the main bedroom measures 4,5 cm by 3,5 cm. Mrs Mahlangu claims that the floor area of the main bedroom is more than 16 m2 . Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether her claim is valid. You may use the following formula: Area of a rectangle = length × width (4) 2.1.8 One of the windows of the house is chosen at random to be cleaned first. Determine, as a percentage, the probability that the chosen window is in a north-facing wall. (2) [20] Copyright reserved Please turn over
Mathematical Literacy/P2 5 Hlayiso/Mock 2026 NSC Mock QUESTION 3 3.1 Mr Ndlovu wants to paint the outside of the front wall of his house. The wall is 9 m long and 2,8 m high. It has ONE door and TWO identical windows that will NOT be painted. 0,9 m 1,2 m 2,8 m 2,1 m 1,5 m 9m Information: • The wall must be painted with TWO coats of paint. • 1 litre of paint covers 8 m2 of wall for ONE coat. • The paint is sold in 2 ℓ tins at R219,99 per tin. Use the information above to answer the questions that follow. 3.1.1 Calculate the area of the whole wall (including the door and windows). You may use the following formula: Area of a rectangle = length × width (2) 3.1.2 Show that the area of the wall that must be painted is 19,71 m2 . (3) 3.1.3 Calculate the number of litres of paint needed to paint the wall with two coats. (3) 3.1.4 Determine the total cost of the tins of paint that Mr Ndlovu must buy. (3) 3.2 Mr Ndlovu buys a circular paddling pool for his children. The pool has a diameter of 2,4 m. It is filled with water to a depth of 45 cm. 2,4 m water depth 45 cm NOTE: 1 m3 = 1 000 ℓ 1 m = 100 cm Use π = 3,142 Use the information above to answer the questions that follow. 3.2.1 A soft foam strip is fitted around the top edge of the pool. Calculate the length of the foam strip. You may use the following formula: Circumference = π × diameter (2) Copyright reserved Please turn over
Mathematical Literacy/P2 6 Hlayiso/Mock 2026 NSC Mock 3.2.2 Calculate the volume of water, in litres, in the pool. You may use the following formula: Volume of a cylinder = π × radius2 × height (4) 3.2.3 Mr Ndlovu fills the pool with a garden hose that delivers 18 litres of water per minute. He claims that it takes less than 2 hours to fill the pool to a depth of 45 cm. Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether his claim is valid. (3) [20] Copyright reserved Please turn over

(The diagrams show the rack from the front.) • STEP 4: Stand the rack upright and fix the back strip (C) to the top at the back. [Examiner’s own] Use the information above to answer the questions that follow. 4.1.1 Determine the total number of side panels, shelves and back strips (parts A, B and C) in the package. (2) 4.1.2 Write down the name of the tool that is supplied to tighten the screws. (2) 4.1.3 Describe, in words, what must be done in STEP 2. (3) 4.1.4 Give ONE reason why STEP 1 to STEP 3 are done with the rack lying on its back and not standing upright. (2) 4.2 The Mabaso family drives 216 km from their home to their grandparents’ farm. They leave home at 07:40 and drive at an average speed of 90 km/h. On the way they stop once for 25 minutes to buy fuel and refreshments. Mr Mabaso claims that they will arrive at the farm before 10:30. Verify, showing ALL calculations, whether his claim is valid. distance You may use the following formula: Time = (5) average speed Copyright reserved Please turn over
