Informal/unprepared speaking Before speaking During this process you will spend some time organising your ideas. If you do not have much time, do this quickly before you speak. During reading In Level 4, speakers are expected to be aware of who the audience is, and to be aware of the purpose and context of the communication. This means that you must think about who you are speaking to, and why you are having the communication. Feedback After your unprepared oral has been assessed, your lecturer will give you feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of your presentation. Debating Definition A debate provides a place for people to exchange ideas, to argue different viewpoints, to listen to others, to communicate effectively and to engage with others. • There are strict guidelines where people have different roles to play and there are strict time limits. Multimedia presentations 2 In this type of presentation, you can use pictures, posters, audio-visual aids, such as a tape recorder, a DVD player or even a PowerPoint presentation, using a computer to reinforce what you are saying. The important point of a multimedia presentation is that you should integrate your visual aids with your speech. This means that instead of saying your speech and then displaying your visual aids; you use your audio-visual aids while you are saying your speech.
